Who is responsible?
When I talk with my family about the global warming, they still believe that humans are not responsible for the global temperature rises, and it is a normal process of the Planet when temperature increases or decreases. Many people think the same, or it might not even cross our minds.
However, scientific world already accepted that humans’ activities are the main contributors to the global warming.
International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), 5th Assessment report (2013) concluded: “It is extremely likely that human influence has been the dominant cause of the observed warming since the mid-20th century”
Why Global Warming?
The “greenhouse effect” is the main cause of the current global warming trend is human expansion of the — warming that results when the atmosphere traps heat radiating from Earth toward space (source). Greenhouse gases include water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone and some artificial chemicals (source).
Where to focus on?
Which economical sector plays the main role in GHG emissions and consequently global warming? Based on IPCC report, Electricity and Heat production sector (25%) is the main player in GHG emissions, the next one is AFOLU (Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use).
Electricity and AFOLU sectors have to change their trend towards “green” technologies, and one of the solution is solar energy, especially in Asian countries where solar radiance is high and wind speed is low.
Are we gonna make it?
During Bonn Climate Change Conference in April 2018, 197 countries had agreed to keep the global warming below 2°C while pursuing efforts to limit it to 1.5°C relative to pre-industrial levels (1850 year). Based on graph below temperature rose on 1°C.
How can we keep the temperature below 1.5°C ?
